Tradition and Modern Learning in Japan: Gakushuin University’s Exchange Program

AU Study Abroad is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the Gakushuin University Exchange Program 2026 in Tokyo, Japan! This is a unique opportunity for AU students to broaden their horizons, experience life in Japan, and join a truly global learning community.

 

📅 Important Dates

Nomination Deadline: 30 September 2025 (for April 2026 admission)

Academic Calendar:

1st Semester: April – July

2nd Semester: September – January

 

🎓 Why Join the Exchange?

Full Tuition Waiver – Study in Tokyo with no tuition fees, exclusively for AU students.

Scholarships & Housing Support – Opportunities for financial assistance and subsidized housing.

Student Support – Buddy system, Japanese language learning support, and writing assistance to help you adjust and succeed.

Unique Courses – Explore the Japan Studies series (Politics, Society, Culture, and more) or enroll in courses across Law, Economics, Letters, Science, and International Social Sciences.

Cultural Experience – Take part in traditional arts study trips, local tours, and homestay programs for a deeper cultural immersion.

 

🗣️ No Japanese? No Problem!

If you do not have prior Japanese language experience, you can still join the exchange. Gakushuin offers the Japanese Language Preparatory Course (JLPC), a free program included in the exchange:

Phase 1 (Online): Six months of self-guided E-learning with weekly online lessons before arriving in Japan.

Phase 2 (On-Campus): A two-week intensive Japanese training to help with everyday life and campus use.

Phase 3 (On-Campus): Continued language and cultural sessions, focusing on conversation, clubs, and student activities.

 

🏫 About Gakushuin University

Founded in 1847 as an educational institution for the Japanese aristocracy and established as a modern university in 1949, Gakushuin University is located in the heart of Tokyo on a spacious, green campus that blends tradition with vibrant student life. The university hosts around 9,000 students, including 180 international students, across five faculties and 17 departments, supported by more than 1,200 faculty members.
