On 20 April 2026, the Office of International Affairs (OIA), Assumption University of Thailand, was delighted to welcome back Mr. Sjoerd Musters from Maastricht University (Netherlands), who returned to Hua Mak campus with his family for a heartfelt reunion.

Having studied at AU from November 2002 to March 2003, Sjoerd shared that his semester abroad remains a truly special chapter of his life. In particular, he reflected on how his experience was shaped not only by academics, but also by the genuine care and support he received from the International Office. Most notably, he fondly remembered Dr. Samusa Nakasingh (Dr. Sam), whose kindness and dedication continue to represent OIA’s commitment to ensuring that every exchange student feels welcomed, supported, and at home.

Moreover, his visit beautifully highlighted the lasting impact of OIA’s mission to create meaningful international experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. From recalling simple Thai phrases like “mai phet” to reconnecting with familiar campus symbols such as the beloved parrot “Kaew Cha,” his memories reflect how cultural immersion and personal connections are thoughtfully nurtured throughout a student’s journey.

At the same time, this visit marked a new beginning, as Sjoerd’s sons experienced Asia for the first time. Their joyful interactions and thoughtful drawings for Dr. Sam served as a touching reminder that the relationships built through OIA programs can transcend generations.

Through stories like Sjoerd’s, the Office of International Affairs reaffirms its dedication to supporting students at every stage of their international journey—before, during, and long after their time at Assumption University. In doing so, OIA continues to foster global citizens while creating a lifelong sense of belonging that makes AU feel like a second home.
